The Director Spike Lee
Spike Lee is an American film Legend who acted in a variety of his own films as well as others. The writer, producer, director and actor Spike Lee was born in Georgia in the city of Atlanta. He is the son of Jacqueline Carroll Shelton who was a teacher of the black arts and of black literature and his father was a composer and a jazz musician making Lee’s early life one that incorporated much in terms of entertainment. Spike Lee moved to Brooklyn New York with his family when he was only a small child and lived there for quite some time. The neighborhood in Brooklyn named Fort Greene is the site of Lee’s production company called 40 Acres and A Mule. Lee also has other businesses that are related to this one located in Brooklyn where he spends a majority of his time. The now famous Lee attended the John Dewey High School and then enrolled in the historically black Morehouse College and while in college he made his first film entitled Last Hustle in Brooklyn. The prestigious Lee took courses in film at Clark Atlanta University and also graduated from Morehouse College with a bachelor’s in mass communication.Since Lee’s graduation from college he has made and featured in countless films with his first feature film being She’s Gotta Have It. This film had a budget of only $175,000 and was shot in only 2 weeks but grossed over 7 million dollars at the box office. This was a great accomplishment for the film director and this skyrocketed Lee to fame as a director. This movie also got Lee a commercial deal with Nike to direct many of the company’s commercials. He also directed commercials for Converse, Taco Bell, and Jaguar in addition to the nike air Jordan commercials he directed in his early career.
